Dear Me… That One Lesson from Father, Before Preparatory School!

Early morning, my father helped me in getting ready. He told me, we are going to school. “You need to begin the first chapter of life now”, that’s what he said. School??? What is that? Well, who cares? I’m going, because I like when my dad takes me out. “Dad, where are we going? What happens at the School? Who else will be there..?”, “Hold on son, don’t be so curious… you can explore the place by yourself”, my dad replied with a smile. “Here we are…” “Be good… have a smile on your face… and do not cry, once I leave the place”, dad continued after a pause.

Wow… it’s a beautiful place… kids play area… fine-looking paintings on the wall… and the voice of little kids. I was introduced to a teacher (Principal). “He looks like a bright kid”, Principal said. Every other kid is bright for them. May be, that’s what they had learned. After a 15-20 minutes conversation, a person from the door came in and gave the papers to my dad. He kept them with him and asked me, “You want to join from today itself or you will join from tomorrow?” “That’s okay sir, let him join from tomorrow”, principal replied on my behalf. I was unaware of everything that was going on there.

My father woke me up early. He again helped me getting ready. Additionally, he told me, “You have to wake up early now. You have your school at 7:30am.” “Don’t harm anyone in school and make friends”, he continued. “Why I need to go to school..? I think my family wants me to stay away from them. They don’t love me anymore.” Lots of thoughts are popping up in my mind. We reached school. I was handed over a bag. A man with short height took me to a room. Many kids of my age were there. Everyone was staring at me. I felt like screaming and crying loudly, so that, my dad can come to take me back home. Well, in few minutes, I realized, tears are rolling down from my eyes… I’m looking down… not making eye contact with anyone.

Someone came…, all the kids stood up and said, “Good morning teacher.” I followed them and did the same except saying those words, as I barely apprehend what they said. “We have a new classmate… Joy. Make him your friend and play with him.” “Don’t leave him alone, anyway… He is your new friend”, the teacher added.

I was sitting on front bench of the class. Every child in the class is inspecting me…. the teacher is also observing me. that’s what I thought Nevertheless, nothing was in the way my mind gave me signals. None of the child and the teacher had their eyes on me.

Days passed on. I got familiar with the environment of a preparatory school. My definition of school changed with time. Finally, I understood, why my father said, “Explore the place by yourself”? He gave me the space to understand things my way. He always knew, it is really important to have the personal experience of everything. My way of comprehending the things may vary with yours. Ultimately, I cannot judge other people on the basis of the life I have lived.

To be continued…

PS: The first day of school was amazing. My mind gave me unlimited signals. Initially, I tried to understand why they call this place, “School”. Later on, I figured it out. School is the place where we make friends to play and do all the blunders of life as a kid.
